Any idea who's behind this hack? How to resolve it?

It targets Ubuntu Server installations, resists OS reinstalls, and spreads to other computers. The hacker who made it has an avatar of some sort of "elf" with green or blue hair (it appeared on the screen when the virus was installed). They are clearly intelligent, but I do not see the purpose of the virus. It doesn't seem to make anything much more than preventing me from using Ubuntu Server safely as it creates an SSH-key and sends it over to a cloud. The cursor can move freely at the launch of Ubuntu Server, and when I log in to the server, it seems to function normally.
