So last night I was logging into a website of a pretty large company, that I use often to browse, or buy outdoor gear from. When I clicked to login all of a sudden I was in somebody else's account! Someone I've never met, nothing! Some guy born in 79, I had access to his account I could have taken it over, used his card to send stuff to wherever, at least until he found out and cancelled his card! I didn't, do that. I emailed him to make him aware, as well as the company.
But it makes me concerned for my own account. I'm someone who is completely new to computers in general. I'm 35 and I just got my first computer 5 years ago and really only used it for Google, and Excell. But I am getting interested in cyber security the past couple months, as well as some hacking stuff. I recently got a flipper, and some raspberry pi stuff to play with (I know nothing about electronics either lol, but I want to learn). But anyway this is really interesting to me.
I use a VPN. So one of my thoughts was that maybe it has something to do with the IP that I was using through the VPN? I'm not sure how websites work so idk if this is possible, but it seemed most likely in my limited amount of limited knowledge lol.
But can someone please tell me what might have happened here?
