Just to make this educational; I have a question that I always ask in interviews: 1) On a DHCP network, How is the address data transmitted if there’s no IP address yet to send the packets to? The answer lies in the OSI model. This is some ARP shit. Basically the host sends a DHCP Discover packet. The dhcp server does an arp query (to make sure nobody’s got the address) and then offers the new address to the host. All over layer 2. Next question: Without looking it up, what unit is traceroute measured in? [link] [comments] |
