Is it possible to decrypt a file with a different software from the one used to encrypt?

I used a software to encrypt a file with a custom password, but now that software is inaccessible. Is there a way to identify which encryption was used so I can use another software to decrypt it, using the custom password used in encryption. Is my file lost now that the service I was using is down?
