Hacking an old iPad that hasn't updated in 10+ years

I've seen people brute force these things that havn't been updated but google is turning up 0 help.

It's a combination of a light, a small board and some software I believe

Its for my auntie, we are willing to put some money into it.

Ipad mini 2 if it helps.
