Is it easier today than 14 years ago to crack a WPA wifi password?

Like 14 or 15 years ago I was really into hacking wifi, then there was still many WEP to crack by just getting enough traffic. But for WPA it was always the same steps, wait for client to be connected, make a deauthentication attack, get the handshake when it reconnects and start comparing the hash against a hashed or not password dictionary that hopefully has the password. Is this process the same today? Is there anything actually new? I hear about MANY new tools that end up being the same shthing with a different name. No new attacks or vulnerabilities on WPA or easiness on cracking the hash. Can I use my GTX1080 GPU for cracking the WPA in a way that is actually possible?
