Using images in Word to find a computers IP address

I was playing around with ip grabbers and had an idea. Could you use an image in a Word document to find the IP of the computer that opened the document?

I had two ideas:

​

  1. Somehow use the metadata to call a link and therefore get that computers IP
  2. Have a remote image on the doc of a 1*1 white pixel to hide it; when the victim opens the document, it gets the image and gets the IP of the computer that called the image

Any help with these ideas would be greatly appreciated
