Not really "hacking" but had no other idea of where to post this lol

I was given a school computer to take tests on on campus . I've been told they can monitor what tabs I go on during the test so there is no cheating . I thought it was BS but I clicked the onto a different tab once and was called out for it . My question is , if I disconnect the computer from the school Wi-Fi and onto my phones Wi-Fi will they no longer be able to proctor? Or is this not Wi-Fi based ? Cheers thanks ❤️🙏👾
