what are the methods to crack a password?

Can't we crack a password by following this algorithm -

1.) Knowing the password length. 2.) Now cracking it by passing letters, numbers and symbols through each character instead of brute forcing the whole password. 3.) Now when all the characters match, we get the password.

What is wrong with this method ?
