is having someone's IP useless or can allow you to get their location?

so out of curiosity I want to know this, can you get someone's location by getting their IP address ? i tried using my IP to see if it will give me my location accurately and it showed up a place that is 30 mins away from where i live with car so its pretty inaccurate

can you do anything else with an IP? is there any way to get an accurate location using it?
