Is it possible to hack into someone's phone by having them download a picture

Met a girl on Tinder. Think she's scamming me or at the very least, catfishing.

Is it possible to hack someone's phone through texting or phone calls? I might just be paranoid but I can't stop worrying about it. If it is possible, how and what should I look for?
