I remember a few years ago listening to a podcast about this, but can't find any relevant info from googling. Can anyone help?
Microsoft was about to be hacked by a group who were claiming to be some other famous hacking group. However there were indicators that they were not this famous group because they would release messages which were in broken english - this was not consistent with the other famous hacking group. I think Microsoft thought it was a joke and did not heed the hacker's warnings, then the breach happened and it was a very massive breach but I can't remember exactly what they did. Microsoft then released an update that would fix the issue, however a significant number of people did not update their windows system therefore continued to be affected by the breach.
Does this ring any bells for anyone? It had to be before 2019 because that's the year I listened to a lot of podcasts and it seemed like the podcast was telling an old story so maybe even years before that. Let me know if this isn't allowed in this subreddit, thank you.
