Logging open wifi networks

I'm trying to do a project where I use a microcontroller to log open networks around my city. I'm thinking of using a raspberry pi zero with maybe a GPS tracker to log the location of the networks so i can make a interactive map. I plan to just walk around in the city with the pi in my bag and make it run a script that collects the SSID and location and save it in a file.

Is it possible to log the location of the network without using a GPS tracker connected to it? And is it enough to use the wifi transmitter inside the pi or should I buy a wifi antenna to connect with it?
