Found my old laptop from school about 8 years ago... forgot the admin password. Is there any way to recover my files and programs?

Stated in title, 8 year old ACER laptop and I can’t access my admin profile. What options do I have? I have a SATA but no other PC’s in the house, just apple products. I was wondering if anyone knew a workaround to get access to admin mode as I can’t get to the files I want (are hidden folders also available if I pull the hard drive and transfer everything to my server or just used as external HD?)
