Almost got scammed by hacker

I’ve got a question hopefully the big brains here can answer for me.

Recently my wife was nearly scammed for a few hundred dollars via her Uber eats account. She got some email notifications from the app that two orders had been placed from her account, her phone number was requested to be changed and her password had been requested to be changed. The two orders were for around 150$ each in food orders.

They were from restaurants on the other side of the country from us, to be delivered to two addresses in that area. The hacker had just added the new addresses to her account.

Luckily she acted fast and locked the account and credit card and reported it to Uber eats before they could take the account.

My question for you guys is, how did the hackers even gain access to the account in the first place?
