Understanding Hacking Process for Game Design

I'm interested in doing a small game based on hacking similar to games like Hacknet but with even more immersive hacking (not just typing commands into a terminal). However, learning how to hack is a very complicated process and a deep rabbithole (which I am interested in but it would be a long process). Thus, I want to learn more about the process and feel of hacking so that I can replicate that within the game. I want the game to have more open-ended levels where there are multiple ways to gain access to what you need. I'm also interested in different vulnerabilities that I can draw inspiration from. I want the game to have a programming element but nothing too complex. If you need more info about what kind of game I'm making feel free to ask. So, if you have any comments about the feel or process of hacking, or any suggestions feel free to share.
